ACCESSIBILITY

Last reviewed: August 8, 2026

Our commitment

The Board Walks exists to create environments where people can experience meaningful conversation, belonging, and real-world connection.

We are committed to making our digital content and in-person experiences as welcoming and accessible as we reasonably can. We know accessibility needs vary, and we welcome feedback about barriers encountered on our website or at a walk.

Accessibility of our walks

The walks are designed primarily for adults. Participants under 18 may attend only with a parent or legal guardian who remains present and responsible for them throughout the walk.

The Board Walks are approximately five miles and are designed for the group to move together at a conversational walking pace of approximately 20 minutes per mile.

To participate, each attendee must be able — independently or with a mobility device or support person — to sustain that pace for the duration of the route and safely navigate the route conditions described for the event.

Hosts cannot provide physical assistance, supervise an alternative pace, or substantially slow or separate the group for an individual participant. If you cannot meet these essential participation requirements, the event is unfortunately not a good fit.

Routes, surfaces, weather, elevation, seating, restroom access, transit, parking, and other conditions vary by city.

Some routes may include:

  • Uneven pavement or natural surfaces

  • Hills or changes in elevation

  • Street crossings

  • Curbs or areas without curb cuts

  • Stairs

  • Limited seating or rest opportunities

  • Limited restroom access

  • Weather exposure

  • Areas that may not be fully accessible to mobility devices

We do not want anyone to have to guess whether a particular walk can support their needs. Contact the relevant local host before attending via your city's Meetup group, and we will share the route information available to us.

We will consider reasonable modifications that do not change the event’s essential group-moving format.

Because routes and public conditions can change, we cannot guarantee that every route will be accessible for every person.

Requesting an accommodation

If you would like to discuss an accommodation, contact our team.

It is helpful, but not required, to include:

  • The city or walk you are considering

  • The date of the walk

  • The barrier or concern

  • What accommodation or information may help

  • How you would like us to contact you

You do not need to provide a diagnosis or unnecessary medical information. Please share only what is helpful for understanding the request.

We will make a good-faith effort to respond and determine what route information or reasonable modification is available without changing the event’s essential group-moving format.

Service animals and mobility devices

Lawful mobility devices and service animals are welcome when their use is consistent with these essential participation requirements and applicable law.

Because specific routes and gathering places vary, contact us or the local host if you need information about route surfaces, stairs, transportation, or other conditions.

Non-service animals are welcome only if they have no history of violence, especially in group settings or around other animals.

Digital accessibility

We are working toward alignment with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, currently using WCAG 2.2 Level AA as a reference point for our website.

Our accessibility efforts may include:

  • Providing descriptive alternative text for meaningful images

  • Maintaining readable text and color contrast

  • Organizing pages with logical headings

  • Using descriptive links and buttons

  • Supporting keyboard navigation

  • Providing visible keyboard focus

  • Labeling forms and form fields

  • Making form errors understandable

  • Supporting browser zoom and responsive layouts

  • Avoiding essential instructions that rely only on color

  • Providing captions or transcripts for essential audio and video where reasonably possible

  • Reviewing new pages and significant updates for accessibility concerns

Accessibility is an ongoing process. We may not yet have identified or corrected every barrier.

Known limitations

Some areas of the website may not yet fully meet our intended accessibility standard.

Potential limitations may include:

  • Older blog images or media without complete alternative text

  • Third-party forms or embedded content

  • Podcast or video archives without complete transcripts

  • Pages or components provided by outside platforms

  • Older content created before our current accessibility practices

  • Occasional heading, focus, contrast, or responsive-layout inconsistencies

If you encounter one of these issues, please contact us. When possible, we will provide the information in another accessible format or help you complete the intended action.

Third-party platforms

Some parts of The Board Walks experience use third-party services, which may include Meetup, Typeform, Beehiiv, Mighty Networks, and payment or media platforms.

We do not control every aspect of these services. However, if a third-party tool creates an accessibility barrier, we still want to know. We will make a good-faith effort to help you find another way to access the information or complete the relevant process.

Reporting a digital barrier

If you experience difficulty using theboardwalks.com, please tell us:

  • The page or URL

  • What you were attempting to do

  • What went wrong

  • The browser or device being used, if known

  • The assistive technology being used, if relevant

  • Your preferred way to receive a response

We will use this information to investigate the issue and, where reasonably possible, provide an accessible alternative.
